Introduction
The Dream Realized: The History of the Glendale-Peoria (AZ) Alumni Chapter
Foundations of a Legacy
In 1911, ten visionary men defied societal barriers and established Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at Indiana University, Bloomington—a predominantly white institution where Black students made up less than 1% of the student body. Their mission was clear: to foster brotherhood, leadership, service, and academic excellence amid a landscape of racial exclusion and systemic adversity.
Over a century later, that same vision inspired a group of committed men in Arizona's West Valley to expand the fraternity's footprint and uphold its esteemed legacy.
The Vision That Started It All
The Inception of the Glendale-Peoria (AZ) Alumni Chapter
In 2013, six members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., who were all members of the Phoenix (AZ) Alumni Chapter, met in the parking lot of the George Gervin Prep Academy, located at 2801 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85042. On that day, these visionary members convened to discuss a shared aspiration—expanding the fraternity's presence in the Phoenix metropolitan area by establishing an additional alumni chapter.
As afternoon turned into early evening, the six Kappa brothers continued the conversation and captured a defining moment: a picture of them looking toward the sky, symbolizing their dream of expanding into the Western Phoenix metropolitan area by adding another alumni chapter in the West Valley. This iconic image became the outline foundation of the Glendale-Peoria (AZ) Alumni Chapter (GPAC) logo.
For eight years, this vision took root. Through persistence, determination, and an unwavering belief that achievement should know no boundaries, these men transformed an idea into reality. They remained steadfast in their commitment, ensuring that the fraternity's core principles guided their efforts.
